I can’t be like you, Mom ! Even if I try !
Mom, I can’t be like you; Even if I try as hard as I can
Your patience, selflessness & grit belongs to a totally different clan
We claim everyone is equal & we all have freedom of speech
Respect the woman, they are our goddess; that’s what they preach
But what I see is totally a different picture
which makes me doubt the writings in the scripture
A woman toils day in and day out just to caress her child
what she gets to hear are complaints of incompetence; be it stern or mild
From the same family members for whom she sacrifices what not
I am sure this hits her badly that stains her self confidence like a blot
She is constantly reminded that she has to be a perfect mother, a perfect wife, a perfect daughter & a perfect daughter-in-law
But who would treat her like a human who can have flaws
One fine day when she voices her discomfort in opposition
The behaviour is regarded as unacceptable and totally against our tradition
Mom, I have seen you tirelessly working for comforting every member of the family without any expectations
But, Maa, I am too human to understand your self-sacrificing nature & I am puzzled to look at you: ever-so-smiling God’s creation
I, genuinely can’t be half as great as you are because you are a sheer epitome of altruism
So much so, that even the larger than life movies can’t capture your kind of heroism
